Fuse Lens Options, Technologies, & Spec ComparisonUpdated an hour ago

Fuse Lenses manufactures high-impact, optical-grade Polycarbonate replacement lenses. All of our lenses provide 100% UVA/UVB protection, meet or exceed ANSI Z87.1 impact resistance standards, and come with our Lifetime 1-Time Replacement Warranty. We offer three distinct lens tiers: Standard (Non-Polarized), Fuse PRO (Polarized + Anti-Reflective), and Fuse AMP (Color-Enhancing).

Tier Breakdown & Best Uses

1. Standard (Non-Polarized)

  • Features: Essential optical polycarbonate construction, 100% UV protection, anti-scratch hard coating.

  • Best For: Daily wear, budget-friendly replacement, or viewing digital screens/dashboards outdoors without visual distortion.

2. Fuse PRO (Polarized + Anti-Reflective)

  • Features: Includes all Standard features PLUS premium polarization to eliminate surface glare, backside anti-reflective (AR) coating to stop rear bounce-back reflections, extra-dense Fuse Force scratch coating, and hydro-oleophobic water/oil repellent treatments.

  • Best For: Driving, boating, fishing, water sports, and bright sunlight where eliminating glare is essential.

3. Fuse AMP (Color-Enhancing)

  • Features: Includes all coatings and features of Fuse PRO, PLUS patented color-enhancing technology that separates overlapping light wavelengths to dramatically heighten visual contrast and color definition.

  • Best For: Outdoor enthusiasts (hiking, driving, fishing) seeking clearer-than-glass optics and maximum color vibrancy in changing light conditions.

Polarization: Benefits, Screen Limitations, & DIY Testing

Benefits of Polarized Lenses (PRO & AMP)

  • Eliminates Blinding Glare: Blocks harsh horizontal reflections from roads, water, car hoods, and snow.

  • Reduces Eye Strain & Squinting: Softens excessive solar brightness for relaxed, comfortable vision during long outdoor exposure.

  • Enhances Water Visibility: Enables anglers and boaters to see past surface haze and view underwater fish and structure.

When NOT to Use Polarized Lenses

  • Digital Screens / LCDs: Polarized filters can dim, cause rainbow patterns, or completely black out certain LCD screens at specific viewing angles (e.g., digital car dashboards, smartphones, ATMs, GPS units, or aircraft cockpit screens). If you work closely with outdoor digital displays, choose Standard Non-Polarized lenses.

  • Light Sensitivity: A small percentage of individuals experience light nausea or headaches when adapting to polarized filters.

How to Test If Lenses Are Polarized At Home

  1. The Computer Screen Test: Look at a backlit LCD computer or phone screen through your lenses. Rotate the glasses 90 degrees. If the lenses are polarized, the screen will visibly darken or turn completely black as you turn them.

  2. The Double Lens Overlap Test: Remove both lenses from your frame. Hold one lens behind the other facing the same direction, then rotate the front lens 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the back lens. If polarized, the overlapping center area will turn pitch black because vertical and horizontal light filters cancel each other out.

Backside Anti-Reflective (AR) Coating & Care

Benefits of AR Coating

  • Backside Glare Elimination: Prevents sunlight entering from behind or above you from bouncing off the back of the lens into your eyes (ideal for night driving and bright outdoor sun).

  • Improved Optical Clarity: Allows up to 99% of light to pass cleanly through the lens, reducing eye strain during extended computer work or driving.

  • Hydrophobic Protection: Seals the lens against moisture, making water bead off and making smudges easier to wipe clean.

How to Check For AR Coating & Proper Care Instructions

  • How to Spot AR Coating: Hold your glasses under an overhead light or window and view the backside surface at an angle. If you see a subtle colored reflection (typically green, purple, or blue), an AR coating is present.

  • Care Instructions:

    • Always blow off dust or dry particles before wiping to avoid scratching the coatings.

    • Never leave lenses in hot cars or expose them to saltwater without rinsing in fresh water.

    • Clean exclusively with alcohol-free, coating-safe lens spray and clean microfiber cloths.

Lens Materials & ANSI Safety Ratings

  • Optical Polycarbonate: All Fuse replacement lenses are made of high-grade optical polycarbonate—making them significantly lighter, more flexible, and safer against impacts than traditional glass.

  • ANSI Z87.1 Rated: All Fuse lenses meet or exceed ANSI Z87.1 standards for impact resistance and driving suitability.

  • Does Fuse Offer Glass Lenses? No. Due to safety concerns regarding shattering and heavy weight, the industry has shifted away from glass. For optics that rival glass clarity without the weight or hazard, we recommend Fuse AMP.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are AMP lenses polarized?

    • Yes, AMP lenses feature premium polarization in addition to color-enhancing wavelength filtering.

  • How do I know which tier is installed in my frame?

    • Fuse PRO lenses feature a subtle "Fuse" laser engraving on the top corner of the left lens. AMP lenses feature an "AMP" corner engraving. Standard non-polarized lenses have no corner engraving.

  • Do Fuse Lenses meet safety standards?

    • Yes, all Fuse lenses meet or surpass ANSI Z87.1 impact resistance and driving standards.

  • Safety Stamp / Engraving Policy:

Note on Safety Stamps: We cannot engrave or apply official ANSI safety stamps onto replacement lenses. To legally carry an official ANSI safety stamp, lenses must be tested and certified directly inside the specific frame assembly. Because replacement lenses are installed independently into your own frame, we cannot stamp them with safety markings.
